DISTRIBUTION AND COMPOSITION OF BODY WATER (2)

We do not normally drink standard amounts of water and salt in any given day. How does the body maintain the salt concentration and osmolality with such a narrow range?

When sodium depleted, the kidneys would work to retain sodium in the body, by reducing excretion in the urine. On the other hand, when sodium intake is excessive, the opposite happens, and the excess sodium is excreted in the urine.
